Conservation of resources

We want to be able to inspire you with innovative and high quality products for many decades to come. The prerequisite for this is the economical use of resources. Because there is only a finite supply of many raw materials – and even renewable materials only grow in sufficient quantities when they are taken from nature in moderation - we make sure to use raw materials sparingly and economically.

In our products

In the long-term we only want to offer coffee which is produced under environmentally and socially responsible conditions. This involves protecting the soil and water used to grow coffee, of course. Our Non Food items involve the use of many different materials. Here we are paying increased attention to the careful use of resources. Our garden furniture made from tropical or boreal woods is FSC certified. We are also increasing our use of cotton products from certified organic cultivation or from the ‘Aid by Trade' foundation’s ‘Cotton made in Africa' project.

In our packaging

Our principle: 'as much as is needed, as little as possible'. 75 percent of our packaging is made from cardboard or paper. We completely avoid the use of PVC – that goes for our adhesive tapes and labels, too. All our packaging is labelled with the ‘Green Dot’ in accordance with the German Packaging Regulations. In our internal logistics, we use reusable cartons. And when you order online at Tchibo, you can be sure that the package in which your products are shipped is made of 100 percent recycled materials.

At our plants and offices

We also practice conservation in our everyday work, for example, with our office supplies. Here small changes can often have a big impact - for example, in 2007 we switched our copier and printer paper entirely to recycled material bearing the 'Blue Angel' environmental label.
